Today is the new moon, the dark sky empty, no moon really.
Rituals for the New Moon
When I read cards for the new moon I often put The Fool in the middle of the spread as a reminder that we are all beginners, we can all begin again.
Full Moon and New Moon readings are some of the most popular I give because they provide a container for understanding what must be focused on, and what needs to be released moving forward.
During the days around the new moon I alternate between wanting to set bold intentions for the next moon cycle, and wanting some deep rest. The two can exist together however because as I sit quietly on a cushion or lie in my bed or the bathtub, the rest enlivens my mind.
The most important aspect to recognizing the power of the New Moon is creating your own rituals around it. For me it always includes a candle and pulling cards. For others some incense, a cup of tea in a beautiful mug, a crystal which represents how you want to feel, journaling, all create an environment where intentions can be set which have meaning and weight. We are meaning makers.
I don't usually post on Sundays but I did want to put out a reminder to take a few minutes today to set intentions for the next moon cycle, reminding yourself how you want to feel, who you want to surround yourself with and what it is you might create.
For me, I have a number of writing projects to focus on. I want to work on creating a calmer environment at work and home. I want to finish the blanket I'm knitting. I will fly to Phoenix to visit my tarot sister in a couple of weeks which will be great personally and professionally. We'll be recording our first videos together for our upcoming e book. My New Moon cup is full.
