Below is a series I began a few weeks ago, retelling (REALLY MOSTLY TRANSCRIBING) one of my mother’s stories from the period in the nineties when she lived in a small town in Jamaica. She was a fifty-something white English woman, living alone in the almost entirely black town of Lucea. Her stories tell of her partial assimilation and also of her inability to truly assimilate.
