I do a lot of full moon readings. These readings are some of my favorites, as they set the tone for the next thirty days. There is a sense of emergence, of renewal and releasing what is no longer useful. Most of us humans love the moon, some of us follow its cycle more than others, but the moon is irrefutably a powerful symbol and we count on its image in the sky as we move through our lives.
This month’s full moon is called a Beaver moon because it comes at the time the beavers are building their dams and lodges and preparing for the cold winter. Also, this was the time Native Americans set their traps for beaver pelt. Another name for this full moon is Frost Moon, as we usually have our first real frost in November. Here in Seattle, the weather change has been sudden and drastic. From eighty degree days in October we are now in the forties with a chilly rain permeating our city.
On November 8th we will also experience the last total lunar eclipse until 2025. The earth will cast a complete shadow on the moon which will make the moon look orange, a blood moon.
Take the time if you can to make a ritual around this full moon. Light a candle, pull a card, read a poem, cook a warming soup.
I have room in my schedule for two more full moon readings this month if you are interested. Sign up at hannamcelroy.com/offerings.
